In-Home Support - Parents As Teachers
Home Visitation is a fee long-term program for parents who want extra support with day
to day challenges and information on parenting and child development. The St. Albert
Parents' Place Home Visitation program uses the Parents as Teacher (PAT) program.
Parents are supported by a PAT certified Parent Educator trained to translate scientific
information on early brain development into specific when, what, how,and why advice for
families. Parent Educators deliver this information through the PAT Born to Learn
curriculum.By understanding what to expext during each stage of development, parents
can easily capture the teachable moments in everyday life to enhance their child's
language development, intellectual growth, social development and motor skills.
The Home Visitation program includes personal visits, parent group meetig and
regular developmental screening. In addition parents receive help with accessing
community services such as housing, food, childcare, education programs and
health services.
The goal of the program is to help parents give their child the best possible start
in life by providing developmental information and support.
