Child and Youth Courses
Child and Youth courses are offered seasonally. They may vary in length from one to four sessions and are developed to meet the needs of today’s busy adolescents and teens.
Example of our courses are:
-
Friendship Building / Developing Social Skills: These programs are designed to meet the needs of children between the ages of 7 to 12 years. Children will gain an awareness of their unique personality and how they interact socially with peers and adults. They will also learn strategies to help them be more successful in making friends while maintaining current relationships.
-
Development of Self-Esteem: These programs are designed to meet the needs of children between the ages of 7 to 12 years. Children will learn what self-esteem is and how it impacts their daily lives. They will also learn strategies to help them feel better about themselves, develop a “can do” attitude and overcome their personal challenges.
-
Anger Management: These programs are designed to meet the needs of children and youth between the ages of 7 to 17 years. Children and teens will identify their angry feelings and their personal “triggers” which cause them to be angry. They will also learn strategies to help calm themselves down and positive ways to express their feelings.
-
Developing Self-Help Skills and Independence: These programs are designed for children and youth between the ages of 8 to 13 years. Children will learn how to safely become more independent in areas such as; staying at home alone, personal safety, cooking for themselves, navigating the internet, chatting on-line, etc.
-
Learning and Growing: These programs are designed to meet the needs of children between the ages of 4 to 6 years. Children will identify who they are, their unique qualities, and how they interact with others. They will also learn strategies to help them label and express their feelings appropriately while gaining an awareness of behaviors that are suitable for inside and outside their home.
-
Rainbows: The Rainbows program provides weekly support groups for parents and their children who are in kindergarten through junior high. This program is intended for parents and children who are living in single-parent families, or families that are going through painful transitions such as separation or divorce. Even though separation and divorce seem like grown-up problems, it does have a profound effect on children. Through Rainbows, children and parents will be assisted in understanding and expressing their feelings, accepting what has happened, and feeling a sense of belonging.
